What is sedation dentistry?

request an appointment

Dental fear is an incredibly common concern. Far too many people avoid regular dental treatments because they feel fear and anxiety about the dentist and dental care, and popular culture only serves to validate those feelings with their portrayals of dentists on TV and in movies as mean, stupid, cruel, and even sadistic.

Your feelings of fear and anxiety are very real, and we are certainly not going to shame you for them or cause you to feel embarrassed. We're determined to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem!

Sedation dentistry is a way for frightened and anxious patients to relax – and even sleep – through their dental appointments. We offer both nitrous oxide and IV sedation here at Dental Design so you can have the level of sedation that is right for you.

The Types Of Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous oxide, known by many as "laughing gas" or "happy gas" is a mild sedative that relaxes the mind and dulls the sounds, smells, and sensations of the dental office. The sedative effect starts as soon as you start breathing in the gas and dissipates quickly once the mask is removed. In fact, you'll even be able to drive yourself home!

IV sedation produces a deeper level of sedation. Many patients actually fall asleep while undergoing IV sedation, which makes it easy to perform more complex treatment or even multiple treatments in a single appointment.
